John says, "I have been making bows for approximately 10 years. My bows are made by hand, and I make approximately 1800 bows a year of many varied types. I make bows for the Hunter, Target Shooter, and Reenactor.

Bows are made from the finest woods available including Osage Orange (Bois d'Arc), Hickory, Pecan, and other acceptable bow woods depending on availability. I use Bamboo and Hickory for bow backing as well as Deer and Elk sinew when requested. In an effort to reduce costs, most bows are sold "unfinished". This means that they have only two or three coats of wood oil on them to protect the wood from moisture, but no final finish. They also do not come with leather on the handle nor an arrow rest. Finished bows with leather arrows rests are available but at an additional charge.

Fully finished bows are availble at an additional charge of $25.00 per bow. This finish includes a full wood finish on the bow of a hand rubbed coat of Tongue Oil, plus leather handle with arrow rest (be sure to specify right or left handed when ordering). Shipping costs are extra on ALL bows.

Also, you must state the draw length and pull poundage you want when ordering a bow. If you do not know your draw length, place a yard stick in the center of your chest and reach out with both of your hands, fingers extended. The longest you can reach out is normally your draw length. The average is usually 28 inches for men and 27 inches for women. The poundage or draw weight of the bow for Target Shooting is usually 40-45 lbs for men and 30-35 lbs for women. But this is a personal preference. Some men like a lighter pull and some women prefer more. If you plan on hunting with your bow, however, you need to check with your State Division of Wildlife to make sure you get a bow with a strong enough poundage to be legal to hunt in your state.

Once you have determined your draw length and the poundage pull, I will be able to make the right bow for you.

SPECIAL NOTE: ALL bows come with an artificial sinew string and stringing instructions. Commerically built strings are available. All bows also come with a 1 year written replacement price warranty. If the bow breaks for any reason, even if you run over it with your car or your dog chews off the end of it, the bow will be replaced for a small fee. Should that occur, I will need for you to send the handle section, the written warranty, a check for the bow replacement cost plus $15.00 for shipping, and your current mailing address and phone number. I will replace your bow at the same pull poundage and draw length. Osage Orange (Bois d'Arc) wood naturally has some character (imperfections, flaws, and/or an occasional knot hole) in it. I strive to make the bows made from Osage Orange as straight as possible, however, some twist or an occasional knot hole is common in this wood. If you would like me to make your bow out of wood with a lot of character, please specify as no two of these bows are alike.

Hickory, Pecan Wood
